It's the Festival’s Opening Night Concert and it's free for all jazz lovers in Federation Square - featuring a stellar line-up of some of the world’s greatest jazz musicians. There’s the 1930s old-world charm of The Mell-O-Tones swing orchestra, jazz and funk from Italy’s Actis Dato Quartet and a world first, one-off performance from the Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra featuring Australia’s leading jazz musicians. It all kicks off at 4pm, perfect after lunch at the lovely Chocolate Buddha.

  • Love listening to - Katie Noonan Blackbird Project

    VOTE

She's one of Australia's most loved vocalists - now Katie Noonan is hitting our streets for her debut performance at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. Melbourne fell in love with Noonan's ARIA award winning album, Before Time Could Change Us, as well as her latest release Blackbird, where she collaborated with iconic jazz players like Joe Lovano, Ron Carter and Lewis Nash. Don’t miss her jazz debut at MIJF with interpretations from the Lennon/McCartney songbook. Love.

  • Love listening to - Choir of Hard Knocks

The legendary Choir of Hard Knocks is here in Melbourne for MIJF, with Musical Director and Australian of the Year, Jonathon Welch. Melbournites fell for this innovative choir on their popular ABC documentary series in 2007. Since then, with an ARIA winning album and platinum record sales, not only Melbourne, but the rest of Australia has fallen for them too. Don’t miss them this year at the MIJF, with an all-star line-up including Carl Riseley and more.
